That's a double edged sword, as sometimes we must offend people for a reason to motivate them. Zig Ziglar offended one woman to save her by telling her basically to "get over herself already and get on with the business of being happy" - it worked of course.
We have to offend the heck out of our kids, too. It might not matter at the moment that they don't see the greatness of our design, but in the grand scheme of things...it serves to protect them.
